We don't research technology companies specifically.
We conduct research in South Africa.

We take quite a lot of care in designing our sample and keeping a low substitution rate. For web surveys we have got very disappointing responses rates, and poor samples from which to analyse - even in b2b with a closed list and everyone on the web - a telephone call gets much better response rates - we now phone and offer to email a link to a web survey to merge the 2 methods, but still most people prefer to just finish it off with the operator - you ever do this?

A web only survey would be much more cost effective...

I agree, online data collection is the way to go. Today, it is not just IT Market Research but it makes sense to use web based surveys for even consumer research since internet penetration has increased over the last decade even in third world countries. Apart from being cost effective, it is convenient and less labor intensive with enough flexibility for data analysis and reporting.

I agree that online/web surveys is the future. It is not the cost factor but also time and reliability which are reasons for this. Also, the researchers around the world are getting smarters and they do place questions that can easily determine the consistency of respondents data. Now, these inconsistent respondent can easily be flagged and authenticity could be checked as well. One of our clients was a long user of phone based research and decided to do pilot with us on Online Data Collection. He was very happy and is planning to conduct more of his studies through the web.
